Modernized Georgian district | Archframe Design Awards 2022

The modernized Georgian neighborhood consists mainly of residential houses with Georgian balconies and individual yards.

Residential houses created with unique and individual forms characteristic of Georgian architecture do not lose their authenticity and at the same time are depicted with a modern architectural appearance.

The old types of houses spread in the residential area are formed on the basis of the transformation (remodeling) of the Lazuri house and repeat the composition of the Kolkhi ode-house plan. The ode-house here is two-storied – the walls of the first floor (chamber) are mainly made of hewn stone without mortar (dry pile).

Similar examples of construction of stone walls with dry piles are also common in Lazu and Adjarian types of houses. Lazuri and Adjarian type houses are called “old plan” houses here. It is worth noting that the majority of the houses built on the “old plan” have been remodeled and everywhere houses of the same type as the Oda-house have been adopted.

The first floor is almost completely intact, and the upper floor is made of wood, and its plan, as a result of reconstruction, approaches the composition of the plan of the Kolkhi ode-house.
