Ekaant, situated on the banks of the Ganges, is a unique mindversity designed to foster self-awareness, potential, and innate creativity. Located amidst the city’s hustle and bustle, its name, “Ekaant,” reflects the intention to provide a space of calmness akin to the ever-flowing and occasionally chaotic Ganga river.
The heritage building, spanning five floors and a terrace, is strategically organized with a focus on maximizing views of the Ghat. Embracing the concept of “Meditation on Movement” spaces seamlessly flow into each other, emphasizing the flow and depth of the environment. The first floor houses the meditation space, leading to a terrace with a heated pool and an open-air theatre overlooking the Ghat. Rooms on the basement floor and the lowest floor open up to panoramic Ghat views, creating a harmonious connection with the surroundings.
The Entrance: Upon entering, visitors experience a stark contrast between the lively city road and the tranquil river. To enhance this experience, the building’s ground floor features two curved walls that open the space towards the river while concealing essential services. The cafe/restaurant on this level allows guests to enjoy meals with unobstructed views of the Ganga.
The Ghaat: Inspired by traditional ghats, a stepped riverfront serves as an interactive sitting space for various activities, from yoga to evening music events. Jaisalmer stone cladding maintains material continuity with the ghats, and a transparent wall in the academic hall provides a breathtaking view of the river. Adjacent to the hall, a sunken seating area hosts informal sessions and music events.
The Pods: Adhering to the “lagom” philosophy of finding the right amount of space for an individual, Ekaant features single-person hexagonal pods on the terrace. The design prioritizes creating a scale that induces relaxation and closeness to nature, offering undisturbed views of the Ganga.
The Facade: Preserving the heritage building’s structural integrity, the facade undergoes minimal intervention. Arched openings, a traditional form, are reimagined with varied proportions, resulting in a contemporary facade that harmonizes with its surroundings. This facade serves as a dynamic canvas for artists, evolving over time to showcase diverse works. Ekaant, with its mindful design and immersive experiences, stands as a testament to the seamless integration of tradition and modernity on the banks of the Ganges.
